End of financial year sees new car sales rise
The end of the financial year again signalled a rise in new car sales with 6,794 registrations, however the monthly figure was down on last year’s record breaking high. Year to date new car registrations are running neck and neck with 2006. The commercial vehicle market was likewise up on February with monthly sales of 2,444.This was down on March 2006 with the year to date numbers also down by 1.8%.
Mr Kerr, Chief Executive Officer of the Motor Industry Association, said that the year was holding up well especially when compared to the records of 2006. We are still predicting a strong new vehicle market in 2007.
Toyota holds onto the number one spot for total sales with the top places in the passenger car market unchanged from last month. Toyota leads with 2,779 followed by Holden (2,509), with Honda holding onto third place with 2,019 units just eight ahead of Ford.
While Commodore took the top monthly spot with 565 sales we saw a surge in the small car market with the Suzuki Swift taking second place with 342 units, Ford Falcon was 3rd (309), Honda Jazz was 4th (233), and the Honda Civic 5th with 218 sales. Year to date Commodore leads with 1,617 over Corolla with 1,185 and Falcon in third place with 743 units.
